1992 COMEX HYDRA 10

1992 COMEX HYDRA 10

Theo Mavrostomos

701 Meters=2300 Feet

33 years ago, on November 20, 1992, COMEX set a new world record of in an on-shore hyperbaric diving chamber. This time COMEX diver, Theo Mavrostomos sustained 701 Meters (2300 Feet) and it took him 43 days to complete his dive. Theo dove on a special breathing gas mixture of Hydeliox (Hydrogen, Helium & Oxygen).

Theo Mavrostomos wore his Rolex SEA-DWELLER [Reference 16600] when he set this amazing record in 1992 (as seen below). This model of SEA-DWELLER had a 1,219 Meter depth-rating which is equal to 4000 feet. This set the all-time depth-record for a simulated dive with remains to this day. Together Rolex and COMEX had pushed the absolute boundaries of what was necessary or realistic.

Rolex "Egyptian" Day-Date

1985 Rolex "Egyptian" Day-Date

36mm OYSTERQUARTZ: Reference 19028

This stunning Rolex Egyptian Day-Date OYSTERQUARTZ photo is from Antiquorum, and features this over-the-top trippy Rolex Day-Date Oysterquartz that was made in 1985. The watch features a beautifully finished walnut dial, with a bezel with pyramids running around it, as well as down the bracelet. It seems like every time I think I am have come close to seeing it all with Rolex, I come across something else...Is Ronald Reagan still the President? You gotta love the eighties...

I think Rolex should bring back the walnut wood dials in the future, but with modernized makers, as it offers such an naturally (organic) vibe...This Rolex Day-Date model stands testament to the fact that Rolex historically experimented like crazy with enhancing details on many, many different models...In my upcoming set of 12 books on the history of Rolex I go into great detail on the history of the Rolex OYSTERQUARTZ models and will be offering a great deal of previously undocumented insight on their genesis...

Courtney Cox: A Great Rolex Friend

...Rolex Hotness...

Courtney Cox

A Great Rolex Friend

Courtney Cox is probably best known for her role as Monica Geller on the famous comedy show "Friends" which launched on September 6, 1994 and aired its final episode on May 6, 2004. Courtney is a gorgeous woman, great actress and funny comedian. She purchased her first Rolex in 1996, when she was strolling through Beverly Hills after a long day on set.

Courtney Cox (Monica Geller) costarred with Matthew Perry (Chandler Bing), Jennifer Aniston (Rachel Green), David Schwimmer (Ross Geller), Lisa Kudrow (Phoebe Buffay), and Matt Leblanc (Joey Tribbiani).

Despite the fact that the last episode of the blockbuster hit, Friends aired 3 decades ago, the show generates around $1 Billion in syndication revenue for Warner Brothers today, which is amazing if you think about it.

Matt Leblanc (Joey Tribbiani) is a big Rolex fan and has owned and worn many different models over the years.

Over the years, I have published 16 stories on the beautiful Jennifer Aniston, who played Rachael Green on Friends.

Courtney Cox wore her 26MM Rolex two-tone Lady Datejust for many years, then she switched to wearing a Rose Gold Rolex Day-Date on an Oyster bracelet with a domed bezel with a black dial as seen in the photos below. I first wrote about Courtney Cox wearing her Rolex President, 18 years ago, back on October 30, 2008.

Scott Carpenter SEALAB Submariner...

Scott Carpenter

SEALAB Submariner

Nick Gould discovered this really cool image of NASA Astronaut & SEALAB Aquanaut, Scott Carpenter rocking his really cool Rolex Submariner with a depth gauge on his strap and thought I would share it with you.

"The Rolex Submariner & Rolex SEA-DWELLER have a cachet that is unmatched by any other watch. The Rolex brand is the most highly respected in my book. The Rolex Submariner was the preferred diving watch for U.S. NAVY SEALAB Divers." –Scott Carpenter

U.S. Navy SEA-LAB Aquanauts: Bob Barth, Wilbur Eaton & Scott Carpenter

Team 1 Preparing To Dive Down To SEA-LAB 2 Habitat [August 28, 1965]

Philip from MoonWatchUniverse wrote in and said:

"The Scott Carpenter photo is only one of a half-a-dozen series of photographs taken during the making of " The Deep Frontier " a 1967 TV-documentary by CBS  21st Century TV - New York, narrated by Walter CronkiteAquanaut/Astronaut Carpenter wore that bracelet combo between 1967 and late 1969.

Moreover, I believe the little circular instrument was a Swiss-made AquaStar underwater thermometer in Fahrenheit and not a depth gauge as mentioned on RolexMagazine.

"The Deep Frontier: TV documentary can be seen below:

Philip continued "I have volunteered many times to give detailed talks about the US Navy & NASA career of Scott Carpenter, focusing on the 10 watches in his life".

Rolex Fashion Shot of the Day: Uli's LV Submariner...

Green On Green

Uli's LV Rolex Submariner

If you are a reader of Jake's Rolex Watch you probably know the original Rolex 50th Anniversary LV Submariner is one of my favorite Rolex watches.

To my way of thinking The LV Submariner has the perfect balance of timeless Rolex design language and a colorful, charismatic vibe. I think the green bezel insert is fun, sporty, novel and aquatic–and I love the Maxi-Markers and Fat Hands. This is a really cool color combination–assuming you are not afraid of color.
