Rolex Hotness: Renee Zellweger

Rolex Hotness: Renee Zellweger
Two Time Academy Award Winner

Two time Academy Award Winning Actress Renne Zellweger is pictured below sporting her yellow gold men's Rolex Day-Date on an Oyster bracelet. Renee's ancestors are from Switzerland–by the way. Renee won an Academy Award for Best Actress in 2001 for her role in Bridget Jones Diary and she also won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress in Cold Mountain in 2003.

As I have mentioned before, women wearing men's yellow gold Rolex Day-Date watches (a.k.a. Rolex President) is all the rage among Hollywood's top actresses, international supermodels and singers. This list includes Jennifer Aniston, Courtney Cox, Brooke Shields, Elizabeth Hurley, Jessica Simpson, Victoria Beckman, and Sylvie van der Vart.

...Rolex Studio Shot Of The Day... Michael Morgan's 1966 Meters First Rolex Submariner

...Rolex Studio Shot Of The Day...

Michael Morgan's 1966 Meters First Rolex Submariner
[Reference 5513]

Michael Morgan sent in this photo and said:

Hi Jake,

Just wanted to share my 1966 5513 with you, that I acquired a few months ago. I love Jake's Rolex World. It's a daily read for me, kind of like my Rolex newspaper..LOL!!!"

Thanks for your time,

Michael Morgan

Thanks for sending in the photo of your really cool Rolex. I never really thought about it, but in may ways Jake's Rolex World is more like a newspaper than a Magazine, at least, in the sense that it's published 7 days a week/ 365 days a year!?!

Cary Grant Was The Real James Bond

Cary Grant Was The Real James Bond

I realize that lately Jake's Rolex World is looking like a James Bond Rolex Blog, but who can get enough of this really cool James Bond Watch History!?!

I just completed a major update on Chapter 2 of The James Bond Rolex Story, which is titled "Cary Grant Was The Real James Bond." Among other things, I just added this 1964 Charade poster of Cary Grant and Audrey Hepburn to the story. Of course this story goes way beyond just Cary Grant, and James Bond and Rolex, by giving you a "definitive list of James Bond watches."

All Gold Rolex Submariner: Hard To Believe It's Vintage Now

All Gold Rolex Submariner
Hard To Believe It's Vintage Now

It is hard to believe this all yellow gold Rolex Submariner now has vintage Rolex status!?!? The metallic cobalt blue dial and matching bezel insert is loved my many Rolex collectors, and for good reason. This beauty was of course replaced with the Supercase Ceramic Submariner that has fatter hands, maxi markers and a Supercase.

...Retro Rolex Design Detail...

All-New Rolex Explorer II Orange Hand
Side By Side Comparison with the Original

Earlier this week we took a look at the all-new Orange Hand Rolex Explorer II in the wild and today we get to see it side by side with its inspiration. Kristian took this side by side comparison shot of hit all-new 42mm Rolex Explorer II "Orange Hand" next to his original first generation "Orange Hand" Explorer II. Basically we see a grandson, next to his grandfather. As Mr. Spock would say "Fascinating Captain." Just for the record, this comparison photo is to exact scale.

...The James Bond Rolex Story... James Bond Got Married Wearing A Rolex Submariner

...The James Bond Rolex Story...

James Bond Got Married
Wearing A Rolex Submariner

Here is a fascinating piece of James Bond history. James Bond is supposed to be a dedicated bachelor, but he got married and here is a new image I have never published before, showing George Lazenby as James Bond getting married. He got married in "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" and as we see from the photo below, Bond was wearing his stainless steel Rolex Submariner with a morning coat.

On Jake's Rolex World, I have a super detailed set of articles I always update that cover The Complete History Of James Bond Rolex Story, and the series goes way beyond just Rolex watches, but covers all watches as well as many rare and intriguing details, as I uncover them. I actually have an immense amount more fascinating James Bond history and information I will be adding in the future...so stay tuned ;-)

Rolex Coolness: Maurice Chevalier...

...Rolex Coolness...

Maurice Chevalier
1964 Yellow Gold Rolex Datejust on a Jubilee Bracelet

This 1964 Rolex ad that feature Maurice Chevalier is one of my absolute favorite vintage Rolex ads. In particular, I LOVE Rolex's timeless marketing message, which I believe captures the essence of Rolex, and it is true today!!! In other words, Maurice Chevalier's timeless message from 1964, is as true today as it was 47 years ago:

"Like a genial hotelier, Rolex has introduced me to some of the nicest people. I ask about their Rolex and they ask about mine. It's as marvelous a conversation piece as it is a timepiece." Maurice Chevalier (1964)

Maurice Chevalier was a close friend of my family. Maurice Chevalier, for those of you who are too young to know, was a very famous French actor, singer and popular entertainer. One of his most famous songs was, "Thank Heaven for Little Girls."

Maurice Chevalier with Louis Lurie

Maurice Chavalier shared his birthday with my uncle Louis Lurie so they used to celebrate it together. Louis Lurie was an ultra-successful industrialist and owned half of downtown San Francisco. Louis Lurie was also a big Hollywood and Broadway producer. Louis Lurie was also my Grandfather Jake Ehrlich Sr's best friend for four decades.

San Francisco Mayor, George Christopher, Maurice Chevalier, Jake Ehrlich Sr.

In this photo my grandfather, Jake Ehrlich Sr., pictured front right is singing "Thank Heaven For Little Girls, with Maurice Chevalier (Front Center) and the tall gentleman to left was the then Mayor of San Francisco, George Christopher.

I have many other blogs, and one of them explores the life and times of my Grandfather Jake Ehrlich Sr., who was a very famous American Trial Attorney and businessman.

B.B. King: The Greatest Blues Guitarist In History

B.B. King
A King And His President
The Greatest Blues Guitarist In History

B.B. King is the greatest blues guitarist in history and he just celebrated his 86th birthday and he is still going strong!!! B.B. King is pictured below with his trademark guitar named Lucille by his side, with his trademark yellow gold Rolex President on his wrist. It's interesting to note B.B. King has always worn his Rolex Day-Date in reverse, like the King of race car driving, Richard Petty, who wears his Daytona flipped around.

B.B. King's watch almost looks like a bracelet from the front and his ring looks like a Rolex President bracelet style ring. Also, Peter who is a reader of Jake's Rolex Watch Blog pointed out (in the comments section) that B.B. King's guitar has two coronets on it that look very similar to the Rolex coronet/crown/logo. This could explain why B.B. King wears his Rolex Day-Date with the coronet where the watch usually goes!!!

When Love Comes To Town

Today on Jake's Rolex Watch Blog you are in for a real musical treat, so turn up the volume and enjoy some of the best blues guitar you will ever hear:

In these next two videos we see John Mayer going off with B.B. King–both playing some very serious blues guitar!!!

Blues Brothers
Riding With The King

This next photo of the cover of Riding With The King is really cool with Clapton driving The King in an old Cadillac and Clapton is wearing a Submariner. Eric Clapton is also a big Rolex collector and you can learn more about him in the Eric Clapton Rolex Story I wrote.

In this next video below, B.B. King, Eric Clapton, Buddy Guy and Jimmie Vaughan are all wearing Rolex watches and Eric Clapton is sporting his Paul Newman Daytona on a Fatstrap.

Bloomberg Profiles Rolex

Bloomberg Profiles Rolex
and Highlights Pablo Picasso Rolex

Bloomberg News just published an interesting story about Rolex, which I highly recommend. Bloomberg was fascinated with this image of Pablo Picasso I recently published, and they included it in their story.

Bloomberg wrote:

"Rolex is the only maker of timepieces that also can supply an unscripted photograph of Pablo Picasso wearing an American Indian war bonnet on his head and a Rolex Oyster Perpetual Chronometer on his wrist."

The more I look at this photo of Pablo Picasso wearing his Rolex GMT Master and American Indian headdress, the more I realize it is really kind of like a piece of art in and of itself! Like so many of Picasso's art pieces, it is filled with profound irony, juxtaposition, intensity and surprise.

If you look closely, Picasso is staring directly at the camera, and thus staring back through time at you, but if you look closely, it appears he is staring through the camera. In other words, not looking at the camera, just staring forward. I don't recall ever seeing a photo, like this which has somebody staring at the camera, but not appearing to look you in the eye.

...Rolex Super-Coolness... Hello, My Name Is Johnny Cash

The Kings of Country Music Wearing Rolex Series

...Rolex Super-Coolness...

Hello, My Name Is

Johnny Cash

An Amazing Career
With Rolex Keeping The Time Of His Life
1932-2003

As we move into the fall season (in the Norther Hemisphere), I plan to publish some fascinating new stories that cover some of The Kings of Country Music Wearing Rolex, and this years first story covers Johnny Cash.

Johnny Cash is widely regarded as one of the greatest recording stars of the second half of the 20th century. His music style spanned, Rock and Roll, Country, Rockabilly, Blues, Gospel and Folk. Johnny Cash was born in 1932 in Kingsland, Arkansas, and died in 2003.

He left behind an amazing recording catalog, and legacy. It is fascinating to note Johnny Cash was a Rolex man, and we see him pictured below performing on September 22, 1985 performing live at Farm Aid, and he is sporting his yellow gold Rolex (President) Day-Date.

Johnny Cash in 1985 at Farm Aid wearing his yellow gold Rolex Day-Date

Johnny Cash's actual 1950s vintage yellow-gold Rolex Oyster Perpetual is pictured below. It is fascinating to consider he wore different Rolex watches his entire career.
Johnny Cash appears in the 1955 video below, singing his country hit "I Walk The Line."

Johnny Cash was good pals with Elvis Presley, and the two of them used to perform at the same venues together. Johnny Cash and Elvis Presley are pictured together below in 1956. Of course, Elvis Presley also wore a Rolex.

Johnny Cash is pictured below in 1956 standing behind Elvis Presley (sitting). On the far left we see Jerry Lee Lewis, and Carl Perkins playing guitar.

Johnny Cash is pictured below with Bob Dylan who is a big fan of Cash's.

Johnny Cash is pictured above between Glen Campbell and Willie Nelson at Farm Aid in 1985, and we see them perform together in the video below.
