...Dude Looks Like A Lady... Rolex Coolness: Steven Tyler

...Dude Looks Like A Lady...

Rolex Coolness: Steven Tyler
Rockin' A Bejeweled Leopard Rolex Daytona

This is kind of funny. I am not clowning on Steven Tyler when I say "Dude Looks Like A Lady" which is a 1987 Aerosmith song title, but I will point out it is ironic, that it is very typical for women to wear men's Rolex watches, but here we seem to have a Dude wearing a woman's Rolex ;-) Steven Tyler is picture below sporting his trademark bejeweled yellow gold leopard Rolex Daytona.

The photo below is of the yellow gold Rolex Leopard Daytona, and yes it comes from Rolex exactly as you see it. As a matter of fact, that is a Rolex photo.

C'mon and sing it with me now, "Dude, looks like a lady!!!! Dude, Dude, Dude. Dude Looks like a lady." He was a lady...I'm not too sure what this song is about, but it sure is catchy ;-)

Update: It turns out that Steven Tyler ran into Vince Neil of Motley Crue and said "Damn, that dude looks like a lady."

It's funny, because when I look at Steven Tyler, he looks like a morph of Warren Beatty, Carly Simon and Mick Jagger, all mixed into one dude ;-)

Vanessa Bryant, who is Kobe Bryant's wife is picture below sporting a yellow gold Leopard Rolex Daytona. I think this watch looks sexy on the ladies, but few dudes can pull it, and I think it works with Steven Tyler. B.T.W., when I first saw Vanessa Bryant in this photo, I thought she looked like Kim Kardashian or one of her sisters.

Rolex Coolness: Larry Hagman From I Dream Of Jeanie to J.R. Ewing on Dallas...

...Now & Then...

Rolex Coolness: Larry Hagman

From

Major Nelson on I Dream Of Jeanie
to
J.R. Ewing on Dallas

4 Decades with Rolex Keeping The Time Of His Life

Larry Hagman has had an amazing career, and he has been wearing a Rolex Day-Date for the past five decades. In this recent photo below, we see him sporting his trademark yellow gold Day-Date on some kind of custom black and gold strap.

Larry Hagman became extremely famous for his role on the TV show I Dream Of Jennie, where he played Major Anthony "Tony" Nelson. I Dream Of Jennie debuted in 1965 and ran for five seasons through 1970. Season 1 was shot in black and white the next four seasons were shot in color.

Here is the first episode in black and white

When I was a small child I spent countless hours watching I Dream Of Jeanie, which was one of my favorite shows. What man in his right mind would not want a super ultra-hot blond jeannie following him around gladly calling him "Master!?!" while wearing that over-the-top sexy jeannie outfit!?!? In many ways, I Dream Of Jeannie was every man's fantasy come true.

Here is one of the most classic episodes from 1967 of "I Dream Of Jeannie:

Larry Hagman as J.R. Ewing on Dallas
CBS 1978-1991

Larry Hagman did not do that much after I Dream Of Jeannie, until 1978 when he played the role of J.R. Ewing on Dallas. One of the things that surprised everybody was how dramatically opposed his role as Major Nelson was to J.R. Ewing on Dallas.

Larry Hagman is pictured below with his fellow cast members from the hit TV show Dallas

Larry Hagman wore a yellow gold Rolex Day-Date on Dallas as seen in the two following screen-shots:

As I mentioned earlier, it is profound how juxtaposed and antithetical Larry Hagman's character of Anthony Nelson was on I Dream Of Jeannie, versus, playing, J.R. Ewing on Dallas. Larry Hagman really defeated being pigeonholed and typecast by Hollywood, and both of his roles were played brilliantly. Larry Hagman's achievements as an actor are profound, and he will forever be a part of the American TV psyche...

1976 Papua New Guinea Tribe Meets White Man For First Time

...What A Wonderful World...

1976 Papua New Guinea
Tribe Meets White Man For First Time

This is an amazing piece of historical footage. It documents the first time a native tribe in the deep forest of New Guinea meets a white man (who happens to be wearing a Rolex Submariner).

The tribe is fascinated with the anthropologist, and since they have never seen a person with white skin they are really confused. At first they rub his arm to see if he is perhaps he has white powder on his skin? There is nothing so great as the Spirit Of Inquiry and this film shows a tremendous amount of beautiful humanity. As Louis Armstrong sang "What a wonderful world!!!"

I woke up on this sunny summer day, and I was in the shower, looking at my LV Submariner with the Rubber B strap, and for some reason, I started thinking it's Flipper Friday!!! It is hard to believe that the last time we had Flipper Friday was two years ago, so hopefully this summer we will enjoy more of Flipper Friday.

Rolex Super Coolness: Enzo Ferrari 1952 Indianapolis 500 Rolex Chronograph Reference 3055

Ferrari History

...Rolex Super Coolness...

Enzo Ferrari
Rolex Chronograph Reference 3055

1952 Indianapolis 500
[Ferrari's First U.S.A. Race]

The photo below was taken of Enzo Ferrari and his top driver Alberto Ascari in Maranello, Italy as they prepare for the Indianapolis 500 car race that would soon take place in the United States.

Enzo Ferrari is pictured on the far right side, sporting his trademark Rolex Chronograph Reference 3055. Enzo is standing next to world champion, Alberto Ascari (center) and the man on the far left is Ing Daccò (tallest).

It is fascinating to take into consideration the in-depth contextual meaning behind these photos, in the sense, that when they were taken, Enzo Ferrari, with his number 1 driver, Alberto Ascari, were making Formula 1 history, and putting Ferrari on the map for the first time.

In the photo above and in the photo below, we see
Alberto Ascari and the Ferrari N.A.R.T. (North American Racing Team) at the 1952 Indianapolis 500 race. The 1952 N.A.R.T. team was owned by Luigi Chinetti, who was the official distributor of Ferrari U.S.A.

It is interesting to note the Ferrari badge appears in both photos, but without the prancing "Ferrari" Horse. This is due to the fact Enzo Ferrari his first participation in the Indianapolis to be unofficial. After Enzo got underway, he changed his mind and decided to add the prancing horse.

Alberto Ascari experienced mechanical challenges during the 1952 Indianapolis 500 and was not able to continue past his 13th lap. The 1952 Indianapolis 500 represented the first time Ferrari raced in the U.S.A, and even though they did not complete the race, it marked a significant milestone in Ferrari history.

In the photo below we see Alberto Ascari racing in a Ferrari F2 in the Belgian Grand Prix

In the photo below we see Alberto Ascari racing in a Ferrari F2 in the British Grand Prix

Enzo Ferrari's Rolex Chronograph (Reference 3055) was the smallest chronograph ever made, at an astounding 30mm diameter.

The next two photos below are of the same model Rolex Chronograph Enzo Ferrari's is wearing. Today Enzo's son, Piero Ferrari owns his grandfather's Rolex Chronograph, Reference 3055.

The Chairman of Ferrari wearing a Rolex is still standard today, as current Ferrari Chariman Luca Cordero di Montezemolo has worn a Rolex his whole career.

I would like to thank my pal, John Goldberger for sending in these amazing photos. John Goldberger is the author of 100 Superlative Rolex Watches and he also publishes a Vintage Rolex Application for the iPad which showcases high-defenition photos of beautiful Rolex watches.

1940 Italian Rolex Chronograph Catalog Page
[Reference 3055]

John Goldberger also sent in this vintage Rolex catalog page for the Rolex 3055 Chronograph which appeared in an Italian magazine in 1940. Pretty cool!!!

One of the interesting take-away points is that in 1940, during World War II, Rolex pocket watches were still very popular, as we see in the Rolex catalog below. Rolex began selling the Reference 3055 Chronograph in 1940 and offered the model for sale until 1960.

Enzo Ferrari is pictured below on the left with Ferrari Racing Legend, Niki Lauda, between him and the current Chairman of Rolex, Luca Cordero di Montezemolo. Niki Lauda is also a big Rolex fan.

Luca Cordero di Montezemolo is pictured below in the early 1970s sporting his trademark Rolex GMT Master.

Current Ferrari Chairman, Luca Cordero di Montezemolo is pictured below in a recent photo, wearing his trademark Rolex GMT Pepsi, as he poses in front of a model of a Ferrari. It is fascinating to note that the men who have guided Ferrari for its entire history are Rolex men!!!

Earlier in his career, Luca Cordero di Montezemolo was the director of racing for Ferrari, and you see him in the photo (three photos up the page) with Enzo Ferrari and Niki Lauda. Nicki Lauda was Ferrari's lead driver, and we see him in the photo below as he practices at the Nurburgring race track during the 1976 Grand Prix.

We see Niki Lauda in a more recent photo below, sporting his trademark vintage Rolex Daytona.

The Very First LV Rolex Submariner Prototype Reference 16610 LV: Mark 0

The Very First LV Rolex Submariner Prototype
Reference 16610 LV: Mark 0

People ask me what my favorite Rolex of al time is, and my answer is the original LV Submariner. I love the original LV for many different reasons. In particular, I love the Maxi Markers, fat hands and the tri-tone look the green bezel insert offers. The LV is sporty, aquatic, and its design language is pure classic Rolex.

So where did the LV Submariner come from? I will give you a hint. this is the very first photo Rolex ever published of the LV Submariner. It is actually a prototype. How can you tell? Notice the lugs have exposed spring bar holes. Ironically, Rolex NEVER sold this watch with this feature, but it all began with this photo.

RUBBER B: The Ultimate Rubber Strap for Rolex

Made In Switzerland

"The first and only rubber strap engineered specifically for Rolex watches!"

It finally happened, or should I say it was finally bound to happen!!!! Finally somebody decided to create a very high quality rubber strap just for Rolex. So if this does not seem like a very-big deal, it is. Why?

There are many, many, many aftermarket straps for that can be used on a Rolex, but virtually none engineered just for Rolex, that is until Rubber B, just introduced their first line of Rubber Straps.

It took Rubber B a year and a half, just to develop and bring these amazing products to market. Before we explore the amazing level of engineering and detail that went into this herculean undertaking, let's examine what makes them look different.

First of all RUBBER B straps come in different colors, that allow you to quickly and easily change-up the entire look of your Rolex. In this first shot, we see the dude sporting a white RUBBER , strap with a vintage Pepsi Rolex GMT Master.

In the next image below, we see the RUBBER B, model sporting a modern Supercase Ceramic Rolex GMT on a black RUBBER B, strap. So you would assume that the strap in the photo above and below are the same strap in different colors. Right!?! Nope!!!!

The challenge is that over the years, Rolex has made minute changes to the lug openings on their watches. So RUBBER B, had to figure out how to engineer different straps for different models, so they would fit perfectly. By perfectly filling in the entire lug area, it results in a much more finished, polished, refined, complete look.

The material in the lug area is also structured, so it is reinforced to maintain its EXACT shape, indefinitely. (You can actually see the structural rigidity in the first photo in this story of the blue strap).

As I previously mentioned, Rubber B Straps are unlike any other Rubber strap in the world. To begin with, they are made in Switzerland from special type of rubber known as "Vulcanized Rubber" which consists of a very high-density composite that provides superior resistance to stretching, as well as not being effected by exterior environmental elements such as Ozone, UV, and the aggression of salt-water or an aquatic environment.

One of the design characteristics that sets Rubber B, apart is that it uses the original metal Rolex clasp that came with your watch, as seen below.

RUBBER B
for Last Generation Rolex Submariner

This next set of images shows the RUBBER B strap that was made for the recently discontinued Rolex Submariner.

Rubber B decided to engineer their straps to use the original Rolex clasp that came with the watch, in order to maintain the authentic Rolex look, as well as allowing the user to benefit from the added security of the Rolex triple lock clasp.

The watch in the photo above and in the two photos below is a standard modern Rolex Submariner, with a black Rubber B strap.
In this next image we see how meticulous the design and engineering detail is on the RUBBER B straps. Notice how the RUBBER B strap follows the center link design of the Rolex Oyster bracelet. Also notice how perfectly the end of the strap fits into the original Rolex clasp from the original Rolex bracelet!!!

I imagine that if Rolex ever decided to make their own rubber straps, they could not make them an nicer.

RUBBER B
for Gold Rolex Daytona

This next set of images shows the RUBBER B that is made just for gold Rolex Daytona watches that come from Rolex on a leather strap. In other words, Rolex makes white and yellow gold watches that come with a matching gold Rolex Oyster bracelet, and they also offer a white and yellow gold Daytona that comes on a leather strap.

The Rolex Daytona version that comes on a leather strap has special end caps that fill-in the lug space that would typically be empty. Rolex provides these lug end caps to give the watch a much more finished look. The challenge is that if you own one of these Rolex Daytona watches, you can't find a rubber strap that was specially engineered to fit these watches, until now. The RUBBER B model picture below is specially engineered to perfectly fit.

If you look at the image below and compare it to the image above, both are showing the same white gold Rolex Daytona, with a simple change of the RUBBER B Strap from black to brown.

Once again, the photo below is identical to the one above, except the RUBBER B strap has been changed again, from brown to blue.

So just to be clear, the watch below is a stainless steel Rolex Daytona, which uses a completely different model of RUBBER B strap, which is specifically engineered to fit it, vs., the white gold Daytona pictured above. Even though they both have the same color blue strap, notice the difference in the shape of the end of the strap where it meets the watch in between the lugs. Obviously, the white gold version above had the end lug feature, and the stainless Daytona, picture below does not.

RUBBER B straps retail for $220, which may seem like a significant investment, and they are. When you think about it, they are actually very inexpensive, because they allow you to completely change the look of your Rolex that costs between $10,000 and $25,000 for only $220. I would say that is a great deal.

That being said, I think the most important detail to be aware of, is not only the amazing engineering and Swiss made quality, but most importantly, the longevity of this product. Since they are made exclusively from Vulcanized Rubber, they are built to last!!! Just like Rolex watches are over-engineered, so are RUBBER B Straps.

I am so excited about this innovative product, and RUBBER B., sent me some rubber straps to photograph and share with you. As soon as I get a chance, I will publish more images, and perhaps a video. That being said, RUBBER B straps are amazing!!!

For more information about RUBBER B you can check out their website, and their amazing selection. I must admit, that I am stunned by how innovative, and well thought out the RUBBER B straps are. I have wondered my whole life why Rolex or another company, never came up with a beautiful solution like this, and it is great to know somebody finally did.
