Rolex made every vintage Panerai from the very first one in the late 1930s up until the last one in the mid 1950s. The Small Egiziano is pictured below and it is the last model Panarai Rolex ever made in 1955 or 1966. Of course, the Small Egiziano is my favorite Paneari of all time as pictured below. This amazing photo of this amazing Paneria was taken by Martin Wilmsen who publishes The Panerai Wristwatch Blog which is superb!!! The patina on this watch is outrageously beautiful!!!
Kurt in Germany took this photo of two classic icon's. The Supreme irony of course, is that in the 1980s the Rolex President (with the Champagne dial) was considered to be the international mark of success-for men. Today, this same watch has become the international mark of success for stylish women. Oh, sweet irony...
Marcello Mastroianni is perhaps best known for his role in the 1960 Italian Film Noir, La dolce vita which was directed by FredericoFellini. In the photo below we see Marchello Mastroianni with the stunningly beautiful Swedish model, Anita Ekberg. Of course La dolce vita is Italian for The Good Life.
Mario is from New Zealand and he is a fan of Jake's Rolex World. Recently he sent in these photos of his two-tone, ceramic Rolex Submariner cooling off. This is the first time I have seen the all-new generation ceramic Submariner with diamond markers, and it appears as if Rolex has increased the size of the diamond markers to match the new Maxi Markers, which looks so much better, and more substantial...Go Steelers ;-)))
Shot with Canon 5D Mark II, with 24 to 105 f/4 IS USM L Lens
I was born and raised in San Francisco, and I imagine it has to be one of the most beautiful cities in the world. I took these shots tonight and thought I would share them with you. This first shot is of the San Francisco Bay Bridge and San Francisco Skyline with palm trees in the foreground.
Note: Click on images for more detail
This next photo below is a simple photo of the beautiful San Francisco Skyline
I really like this next photo which shows the Bay Bridge traffic heading into San Francisco, with the San Francisco skyline in the background.
This next shot is also of the San Francisco Bay Bridge and I took this one in portrait.
This next shot is of Coit Tower, looking up from underneath
This last image is of the Palace Of Fine Arts located in the San Francisco Marina, and it looks even better today, as it the restoration project was just completed on January 14, 2011, and they added much better lighting to it as you can see.
We see Nick Hilton below, who happens to be, not only Paris Hilton's sister, but also Conrad Hilton's great-grandaughter. As a matter of fact, Nicky Hilton's hotel magnate great-grandfather, Conrad Hilton also wore a Rolex!!!
Mercedes Benz announced yesterday they wear going to manufacture the SLS AMG E-CELL and they showed it off at the North American Auto Show. In this video we David Coulthard takes us for a spin in the amazing new Mercedes!!!
I would not be surprised, if in the next 10 years, all new cars will be electric–and there are so many advantages to electric!!! First, of course, is the lack of carbon emission, second, the engine is silent so there is no toxic noise pollution. Next is fuel cost savings. It costs much less to run a car on electricity than on gasoline or diesel. Also, you can charge your car in your garage every night or any time you wish, so no more trips to gas stations.
Also, electric cars have way fewer parts, and they require far less maintenance, so there is much more in cost savings, not to mention parts last longer. All in all, comparing a gasoline powered car to an electric car is like comparing an old-fashioned Black and White 19inch Tube Television to a modern Color 55 LCD TV–absolute night and day!!!
The Electric Mercedes SLS uses lithium-ion batteries for power which take advantage of the regenerative braking that actually recharge the battery when the car brakes. Apparently the SLS does 0-60mph in less than 4 seconds.
Mercedes Benz is a partial owner in California based, Tesla Motors, as is Toyota, so you have to wonder what Tesla's input, if any, was in this car?
The Cockpit Of The Mercedes Electric Gullwing
A Perfect Marriage of Sophistication with Simplicity
The Cockpit of the Electric SLS Gullwing is a true minimalist masterpiece as we see from this photo of the extremely simple dashboard.
In this next photo we get a good view of the minimalist interior. Notice the unusually large LCD panel. Very, very cool...especially if it is easy to use and works well. It almost looks like an iPad...
Gizmodo just had a competition for best time lapse video and this amazing video won. I had no idea you could see anything like this from earth. I have got to go to Joshua Tree to check out this amazing splendor!!!! Wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Easy Rider is considered to be one of the seminal films that defined a generation. Peter Fonda co-starred with Dennis Hopper in Easy Rider, and Peter Fonda wore a yellow gold Rolex GMT Master in the movie.
"I'm Hip About Time. I Just Gotta Go."– Peter Fonda
In the photo above and below you see Peter Fonda in Easy Rider rolling his own and you see clear shots of his yellow gold Rolex GMT Master.
"Dude means nice guy. Dude means regular sort of person." –Peter Fonda
Dennis Hopper and Peter Fonda are pictured below on the set of Easy Rider and in this shot you again see Peter Fonda's GMT Master on his wrist.
The Hippy movement, which stemmed from the 1968 San Francisco Summer Of Love was blossoming across America, and the world. For better or worse, things would never be the same again...
Peter Fonda Tells The Story of
The Origins Of The Easy Rider Rolex
"Every Rolex Tells A Story"
Interesting video of Peter Fonda discussing the origins of his Yellow Gold Rolex Prototype GMT he wore in Easy Rider.
Born To Be Wild
Here is the scene that Peter talks about where he throws away his watch that is not the Rolex
The photo below is of Peter Fonda's actual yellow gold Rolex GMT Master he wore in Easy Rider.
Sister Jane Fonda
As Barbarella
It is ironic, at the time Peter Fonda was filming Easy Rider, his sister Jane Fonda was filming Barbaralla which was also considered to be a slightly rebellious, counter-culture movie. Jane and Peter's father was the extremely famous movie star, Henry Fonda.
Henry Fonda is pictured below with his son Peter Fonda, and his daughter, Jane Fonda
I figured since yesterday we took a look at the unusually Platinum and Stainless Yacht-Master on a Jubilee Bracelet it would be interesting to check out Klaus' Platinum Yacht-Master Up Really, Really Close!!!
Last week we took a look at Pelé who is arguably the greatest soccer/football player of all time, but there is another man who is also in contention for the best of all-time and his name is Diego Maradona.
So you thought you were into wearing and collecting Rolex watches!?!? You can't help but notice like many NASA Astronauts and Fidel Castro, Diego Maradona has a habit of wearing two Rolex Watches at the same time!!!
To see just how talented Maradona was, check out this crazy video that documents just some of his amazing soccer achievements.
The 1947 Rolex Oyster Ad below is from 1947, and I could not help but notice the shape and width of the lugs is remarkably similar the all the new SuperCases on modern Rolex sports watches.
In other words, if you compare a prior generation GMT or Submariner case to the current versions, the current versions are referred to as "SuperCase" because Rolex seriously fattened up the lugs. In other words, the case is squarer, which contrasts more with the round bezel and dial shape, as apposed to a less square case that follows the roundness of the dial and bezel shape.
I can't help but wonder if this unusual design language came from or was inspired like so many things Rolex does, from their past?
Also notice the very early Rolex Oyster bracelet is not tapered. I wonder if Rolex will ever go back to a straight Oyster bracelet?
Christiane Amanpour is pictured below with Cherie Blair who is former U.K. Prime Minister, Tony Blair's wife, as they appear in the January 2011 edition of Harper's Bazaar Magazine.
Rolex is one of the most recognizable brands on earth, but very little has been known about its real history. If you really, really want to understand what makes Rolex tick, I very highly recommend you read the fascinating story of Rolex's amazing founder–Hans Wilsdorf.
