As some of you know, when I was in high-school, I wanted to go onto become an automotive engineer, but I could not get myself to do it, because at the time, and we are talking mid 1980s, American auto design was at an all-time low.
This was a very big disappointment to me, and I have never liked or desired to own an American car in my life. That is until I first saw an early prototype of the all-new Chevy Camaro Concept Convertible.
I went and test drove the 2010 hardtop (not pictured) Chevy SS V-8 Camaro, and it completely blew my mind!!! Not only was it like driving a rocket-ship, but it also handled like a dream. The all new Camaro SS V8 muscle car does 0-60 MPH in only 4.5 Seconds, which is just perfect if you ask me.
The challenge was the photos they showed were of a red Camaro, and I want a dark Cobalt blue, with a touch of purple (if you are old enough, think Duncan Yo-Yo). I also want the white racing stripes I designed, and I also want to powder-coat the brake calipers in red. I also think it would be cool to put the JAKEe logo on the hood.
Since I am an advanced graphic artist, I decided to use Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator to custom paint the car. I did this because I was extremely curious to see what my next actual car is going to look like. According to Camaro5.com Chevy will start producing convertible Camaro's in January or March of 2011 and I can't wait!!!!
I think the all-new Camaro convertible is the best looking car I have ever seen, and as an American, I very happy to see American cars making a strong comeback.
I included the following video that shows how General Motors is going to have an iPhone application that allows you to use your phone as a key!!! This is so cool!!!
This beautiful and ultra-rare 1804 Proof coin is one of only 3 known examples and it will be on display at the World's Money Fair in Boston from August 10-14, 2010. Vintage coins are just like vintage Rolex watches. They are full of wonder and often magnificent!!!
As blue as the Adriatic Sea, this magnificent Rolex Day-Date is my favorite of all time. Its rich blue color takes hold and immerses our visual sense into its mysterious abyss. ~ Randy
Below, yacht's are blissfully anchored in the northern Adriatic Italian Port of Trieste.
John Hamm plays Donald Draper on the TV mega-hit, MAD MEN, and in the season premier for this 4th season, which aired yesterday, I noticed for the first time he was wearing a Rolex Explorer!!! If you are not familiar with MAD MEN, it is produced by one of the producers from the Sopranos.
Joh Hamm is an amazing actor, and on MAD MEN, which is set in the early 1960s in New York, on Madison Avenue, he plays an ad executive. If you have never seen MAD MEN, I very highly recommend it. I turned Leo onto MAD MEN last year and he freaked out and watched all 3 seasons–on DVD–back to back to back!!!!
There have been other actors on past seasons of MAD MEN who wore Rolex, but never the star, Jon Hamm. He is wearing a stainless steel Rolex Explorer in the photo above and below.
In the photo below from the Season 4 opener of MAD MEN, we can definitely make out the Rolex Oyster bracelet. It is also interesting to note that I remember one of the main characters last season talking about how they wanted to get Rolex as an account for their advertising agency.
In this next photo we get a clearer shot of the Rolex Explorer on Donald Draper's wrist.
In the photo below, we see the watch in the photo above, zoomed-in significantly and we can make a positive I.D., and confirm it is a Rolex Explorer since we can make out the 3, 6, and 9 Arabic markers on the dial.
Jeff Bridges is an amazing actor, and just this year he won the Academy Award Oscar for Best Actor!!! Jeff Bridges starred in the original version of the TRON movie and he is back again in the widely anticipated TRON Legacy and here is an exciting trailer!!!
Watch the first video below first, and definitely watch both trailers!!!! I promise it will be worth it, play it full-screen, and turn the volume way up!!!
Notice the original 1984 Apple Mac and the Rubiks Cube in the begging of this next video. Nostalgiaorama!!!! I just made up a word ;-))) It is amazing if you think about it, that today, a 4th Generation iPhone is like a Million times more powerful than that original Apple Mac and it easily fits in your pocket!!! Reality is stranger than fiction.
Jeff Bridges is an absolute classic, just like his trademark Rolex Submariner. He has been wearing Rolex watches his for his whole career, and we see him below starring in the first King Kong remake in 1976, which was in theaters 34 years ago!!!
As we see in the photo above, a much younger Jeff Bridges is co-starring with Jessica Lange.
Like Father Like Son
It is amazing how much Jeff Bridges looks like his father, Lloyd Bridges and in these next shots we see Jeff Bridges through his career wearing different Rolex Submariner watches.
Against All Odds Submariner
In the photo below we see Jeff Bridges starring in the 1984 movie Against All Odds and we see him wearing an all stainless steel Rolex Submariner like he wore in the King Kong movie.
This is a really profound image because we see second generation Rolex Milgauss watches side be side with a black and a silvered dial. This would kind of be like putting together a modern white dial and black dial Daytona.
I have such fond memories from my childhood of all the magical Disney characters including Donald Duck with his three nephews, Huey, Duey and Louie, so these magnificent Carl Barks Disney paintings from 1974 that are up for auction from Heritage Auctions in August turn the nostalgia volume way up in my mind.
Since these oil paintings were completed in 1974, it is kind of interesting (T.Walker Lloydism) to realize they kind of have a black light poster color palette ;-))))
I have seen this watch start to show up on forums everywhere and I have to say, it is the most photogenic of the new timepieces Rolex has produced. Of course we saw it introduced at Baselworld 2010.
Its stunning 18Kt Green-Gold maxi dial casts a different look under different lighting conditions. This supercase Submariner is quickly gaining a popularity which could give its aluminum inserted predecessor a run for its money ! - Randy
A stunning white gold and diamond sapphire Crown Collection Masterpiece PearlMaster.
This spectacle of opulence is accented with 40 brilliant baguette sky blue sapphires in its bezel. The Mother of Pearl dial, is also set with 10 sapphire markers. Another, "Girls Best Friend!"
The 20 Stage, or the 97th running of the 2010 Tour de France cycling race just passed the half-way point. The race began with 198 cyclists comprising 22 teams of 9. It began in Rotterdam and will end 2,263 miles (3,642 kilometers) later in Paris on the Champs-Elysees on July 25.
This first stunning group image was taken by Bryn Lennon of Getty Images and shows the 2010 Tour de France getting underway on July 6, 2010.
This next amazing image was taken by Bas Czerwinski from AP Photo on July 14, 2010 and it shows the racers as they jam toward Gap, France.
The image below is of Lance Armstrong on July 3, 2010 as he completes the 8.9km individual time trial run around Rotterdam and was taken by Pascal Pavani of AFP-Getty Images.
This next image of Lance Armstrong shows Lance Armstrong on July 6, 2010 with dirt all over his face as he races on the third stage of the Tour de France. The image was taken by Joel Saget of Reuters.
As many readers of Jake's Rolex World know, Lance Armstrong is a big Rolex collector with his favorites being his white dial stainless Rolex Daytona and his Pepsi GMT-Master. In the future we will be publishing a very detailed article on Lance Armstrong's Rolex collection.
Tip: To see all the photos on Jake's Rolex World of Lance Armstrong wearing Rolex watches, click on the Label at the bottom of this post that says "Lance Armstrong" and scroll past the first story...
Pictured below is a Rolex Cosmograph brochure from 1970. Notice in 1970 that Rolex still put "Founder, H. Wilsdorf" on their collateral material. This is of particular interest since we are going to be publishing a story on "The Complete History Of Hans Wilsdorf" soon.
Here is a set of photos from the current movie named Knight & Day starring Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz. In the movie, Cameron is wearing a stainless steel Rolex Submariner.
